BOULDER
Bike, pedestrian safety to be encouraged
Boulder this month will start a campaign of encouraging responsible use of bike paths, bike lanes, trails and roads around the city.
A team of "ambassadors" will be out in Boulder to promote safety among cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.
The "Courtesy is Contagious" campaign is designed improve awareness of safety issues.
City surveys, phone calls from residents and public reaction to the idea of allowing electric bicycles on city bike paths brought to light widespread concern about the safety of the various areas, city officials said.
Valmont City Park path open for use
The pedestrian and bike path through Boulder's developing Valmont City Park has opened to public use.
The Wonderland Creek Path connects neighborhood parks north of Valmont Road to the Boulder Creek Path through the park and via two underpasses.
Valmont City Park is between Valmont Road and Pearl Street west of 55th Street.
The park was scheduled to have sod laid this spring, but drought conditions and city water concerns have delayed the planting. The city will plant a mixture of rye grass to grow with minimal irrigation to prevent erosion until the permanent sod can be put in after the drought ends.
